Would you like to define, articulate, and live by your personal vision in 2025? Here are the three steps to find inspiration and create a powerful vision.
Step 1 - Where Will You Write It?
Here is a free vision template you can use to define and capture your vision; or, you can use the Becoming Your Best Planner with a vision template built into it. Whatever option you choose, have a place to write and capture your vision.
Step 2 - Start With These Three Roles
While you can add more individual roles later, start with these three roles that we all share: personal, professional, and significant other. Take a moment to write these roles into your vision template.
Personal refers to your mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial well-being. It is the most critical role because fatigue here impairs performance across all life roles.
Step 3 - Find (or Borrow) Your Vision Statement for Each Role
For each role, write down a short, simple sentence that clearly articulates your vision. Below are some examples we’ve seen, and if you’re stumped, you’re welcome to borrow one of these (and you can modify it later to your liking) — but get started by putting something down:
Professional –
“I’m among the top 5% in my field.”
“I help hopeless people recover from addiction.”
“I help others live long, healthy, and happy lives.”
“I’m a leading oncologist and help people beat cancer.”
“I’m a people and HR leader!”
“I coach and inspire people to achieve their goals.”
“I train the best sales people in the world.”
Personal –
“I ski at 90 years old in good mental, physical, financial, and emotional health.”
“I love and take care of my mind, spirit, body, & soul.”
“I smile at each day, love my body, and prosper.”
Significant Other –
“I help my partner feel like a 10! She feels loved.”
“I’m a loving, kind, faithful, supportive, and present companion.”
“My relationship is a life-long place of love, comfort, peace, and hope.”
“We will always hold hands, smile at each other, laugh, and get lost in each other’s eyes.”
Note that you don’t need to be in a current relationship to have this vision statement. It can be the aspiration and hope of your future relationship(s).
Other Roles –
Once you have these three life roles you can add 1-5 more (e.g., coach, investor, pilot, parent, student, etc.) if you like. Write out additional vision statements for those roles.
Best Practices
Your vision is your personal compass. It is your purpose and your passion. Here’s how to most effectively use your vision to guide your life, thoughts, actions, and choices:
- Write it out and post it
- Keep it in your planner
- Review it weekly as you pre-week plan
Wrapping Up
Define, articulate, and live by your personal vision in 2025! Keep your vision where you’ll regularly see it, including a copy in your planner. As you reference it weekly in your pre-week planning, it will guide your thoughts, actions, and decisions. That’s leading a life by design and that’s becoming your best!
“The value of your vision is what it communicates to you and others. If the vision is effective, it reflects the driving purpose in your life, it burns deeply in your heart and mind, and it is your guide for who you are and who you want to become.“ – Steve Shallenberger
